Now known as 8violet, they’re a pop rock/contemporary christian band which consists of two sisters, Alyson Renae “Aly” Michalka and Amanda Joy “AJ” Michalka. Born in Torrance, California, they also spent part of their childhood in Seattle, Washington. They both act, but are best known as singer-songwriters, and guitarists. The two signed a record deal with the Disney-owned label, Hollywood Records, back in 2004. Their debut studio album “Into the Rush” was released on August 16, 2005 – and it debuted at #36 in the US, selling over States, selling over 24,000 copies in its first week, later to be certified Platinum by the RIAA. This album earned them the “Contemporary Inspirational Artists of the Year” nomination at the 2006 American Music Awards. It went one to sell over one million records worldwide.

Their 2nd studio album, entitled “Insomniatic” debuted at #15 in the US, selling over 39,000 copies in its first week on the Billboard 200. This is their two siblings’ highest debut to date. Back in 2009, the two sisters claimed that they were going to focus on a third studio album, rather than on acting in separate films. On September 30, 2009, 78violet announced that their third release date for the upcoming album was pushed to early 2010.

However, on February 19, 2010, 78violet announced on their official Facebook page that they split from Hollywood Records and that the album they recorded for the studio would probably not be released. They also made a point to say that they were continuing to write and record new songs.

As far as “extracurricular” activities, the sisters are also involved in a franchise line which includes a doll series and book series.
