78Violet (Aly and AJ) New Direction
One of the most appealing aspects of Aly and AJ is found in their strong vibe of independence and empowerment.
Largely, their song lyrics are positive, and in their videos, frankly, they kick ass. They write their material and play their own instruments – and have a slightly tougher, edgier (see “real”) feel than say Hilary Duff or Ashley Tisdale. In other words, they’re not as “manufactured” as their peers. Yes, they may have started off as “Disney” kids, but they always been better, and in a few short years have truly grown into their own. In fact, their recent departure from their original Disney-owned label, Hollywood Records, should be seen as a positive sign in terms of the cool direction that they’re going into. Now, they’re known as 78Violet, and they’re style is even more edgier than before but still radio-friendly.
As you all know, their first two albums were released by Hollywood Records, and there’s been some controversy in regards to their 3rd album. Originally expected to be released in 2009, the duo has since changed their group name from Aly and AJ to 78Violet. Then it was announced that the album’s release date would be moved to an early 2010 release. Most recently, the two announced on Facebook that they’ve parted ways with Hollywood Records and that it was unlikely that we’d hear the cuts on their latest album. However, they made a point to say, in that same forum, that they had every intention of continuing to write and perform songs.
I, for one, can’t wait to see what’s in store for these two and know we’ll be graced with their talent very, very soon.
