Aly and AJ’s Albums

Into the Rush

Aly and AJ’s debut album was released on August 16, 2005. The album went certified Gold in March 2006, selling over 500,000 copies by the RIAA. “No One”, one of the album’s single, was featured in the Walt Disney Pictures’ Ice Princess soundtrack. The album also included a cover of “Do You Believe In Magic” (originally recorded by The Lovin’ Spoonful) and the sisters gave the classic song an edgier, rock twist. This song, by the way, was used in the soundtrack for the made-for-tv Disney Channel original NO YOU SEE IT, in which Aly had a starring role. The cover became their first single to enter the top 20 Canadian Hot 100 chart, and peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart. The album itself had sold 808,000 copies by December 2007, and exceeded sales of over 1,000,000 copies worldwide.

The album became the 112th best-selling album in the US in 2006, which earned it a spot as #112 on the Billboard 200 end of year chart in 2006.

Insomniatic

The duo’s second studio album was released on July 10, 2007 and it featured a more electropop, electronic rock and dance-pop influenced synthesized sound different from their debut. The album peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200, and sold over 39,000 copies in its first week. It was Aly & AJ’s highest debut to date. By the time early December 2007 rolled around, this album had sold over 215,000 copies in the United States alone.

A notable single off of that album is “Potential Breakup Song”, which was released on July 10, 2007. It peaked at #17 at Billboard’s Hot 100, and became their first top 20 single in the US. This single later went on to becoming certified Platinum by the RIAA after surpassing sales of over 1,000,000 copies. It should also be noted that the sisters had a hand in writing every song that appears on the Insomniatic album – and their involvement is evident. Less sugary than their first album, Insomniatic is more Angry Girl rock with electropop flavorings.
